Colon Cancer Screening

Which Test is Right for You?

Clinica medical providers use two kinds of tests to look for early signs of colon cancer.

People who are not at high risk of having colon cancer can complete a simple test called a FIT test in the privacy of their own home. You will not need to come into the clinic for this screening. Clinica is mailing FIT tests to patients to make it easier for them to get tested for the growths (called “polyps”) that lead to colon cancer. If your medical provider orders a test for you, just complete the test by following the enclosed instructions and mail it back to the lab using the envelope in the kit. Your provider will contact you as soon as we have the results of your FIT test. For additional information about how to complete a FIT test, please click the button below to watch a short video.

The second test is called a colonoscopy. Colonoscopies are recommended for patients who are at high risk for colorectal cancer due to family history or who have an abnormal result from a stool-based test. A colonoscopy is also recommended for patients experiencing: blood in bowel movements, change in bowel habits, abdominal pain, weight loss or unexplained anemia. Colonoscopies must be performed in a clinic or medical setting.
